The Y-Is Kava Vacalea Kadavu team is showcasing remarkable resilience at the ongoing RC Manubhai Nataleira Rugby 7s tournament held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori, despite the exhaustion that comes from competing in back-to-back tournaments. Hailing from various villages in Kadavu, the team has proven their mettle by remaining undefeated throughout the pool matches.
The team’s impressive performance included a 7-all draw against the Dominion Brothers, a 12-5 victory over Kombat Ulunikau, and a solid 12-0 win against Bureta Young Boys in Tier 2 of the men’s competition. The fatigue from rigorous competitions, including their recent participation in the Wairiki 7s tournament, hasn’t deterred them.
Team manager Savenaca Tokavai emphasized their commitment, stating, “This is our seventh tournament together as a team. We’ve been playing since the first Fiji Bitter 7s series in Kadavu. It’s been a long road, but we’re here, and the boys are still going strong because they love the game.” They are now preparing to face Supercool Vatukoro in the third quarter-final.
