Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Biman Prasad recently wrapped up a two-day official visit to Kadavu, aimed at engaging with local communities and civil servants to gain insights into the region’s challenges and opportunities. He was joined by Attorney General Graham Leung, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua, and Assistant Minister for Public Works and Transport Naisa Tuinaceva.
During the trip, the delegation visited Vunisea Hospital and Vunisea Secondary School, participating in talanoa (dialogue) sessions with residents from Tavuki, Naqalotu, Daviqele, and Muani Villages. Discussions highlighted critical concerns such as the need for improved staff retention, additional accommodations for civil servants, and the construction of seawalls to protect against climate change.
DPM Prasad acknowledged these challenges and expressed the government’s commitment to addressing them, noting that further funding would be allocated in the upcoming budget to support sustainable development initiatives. He emphasized the region’s potential in tourism and agriculture, stating that with appropriate investment and infrastructure enhancements, Kadavu could play a significant role in economic growth.
