Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has embarked on a two-day official visit to Kadavu, where he is engaging with local communities and discussing vital development priorities. Accompanying him on this visit are Attorney General Graham Leung, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua, and Assistant Minister for Public Works and Transport Naisa Tuinaceva.

The delegation received a warm welcome from the people of Kadavu, marked by traditional ceremonies that underscored the community’s respect for the government. During discussions, a range of critical issues emerged, including the pressing need for government accommodation for civil servants, additional vehicles for essential services, and improvements in power supply and water infrastructure. The topic of high transportation costs was also highlighted among the community’s concerns.

Professor Prasad emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing these challenges and supporting sustainable development in Kadavu. He reaffirmed the intention to provide the necessary support and services to enhance the quality of life for the island’s residents.

This visit can be viewed in the context of Professor Prasad’s ongoing commitment to boost local infrastructures across Fiji, as seen in recent similar visits where he addressed health, education, and agricultural development in various communities. His recent tours, including one in Seaqaqa where he discussed initiatives such as the Vanua Levu Tourism Development Project, convey the government’s dedication to fostering economic growth and improving living conditions, signaling a sustained effort to create new job opportunities and meet community needs.

Overall, this ongoing dialogue and government presence highlight an optimistic approach to addressing community concerns, signaling a future of collaborative development and improved infrastructure in Kadavu and beyond.
