The Kadavu Stallions women’s 7s team is utilizing the Nataleira 7s tournament as a stepping stone for their preparations for the upcoming ANZ Marama Championship next year. Co-captain Sereima Rauqe shared her thoughts, expressing that the tournament has been a valuable experience for the team.
Rauqe noted that they initially faced challenges due to a shortage of players, prompting her to reach out and include additional participants. She highlighted that many players had been training in various locations prior to the tournament, which added to the team’s dynamic.
Looking ahead, Rauqe acknowledged the need for improvement in their support play as they prepare for their next match. She emphasized that this tournament serves as their off-season training for the championship next season.
The co-captain encouraged her teammates to maintain hope and trust in one another during games, citing the strong bond among the players as a significant asset moving forward. She stated, “This group of players do not want to split away from each other, which is why we are playing together in the 7s tournament.” The team’s aim is to secure a place in the Fijian Drua women’s extended squad.
Rauqe also expressed gratitude to the people of Kadavu for their support, noting that many of the players are from Nadroga. She thanked Minister of Women and Children Lynda Tabuya for her backing as the President of Kadavu Rugby.
The Kadavu Stallions are not only committed to growing as a team but are also grateful for the support surrounding them, fostering unity and ambition. This tournament not only provides them with critical experience but also strengthens their hopes for greater achievements in the future.
Overall, the team’s focus on collaboration and dedication serves as an inspiration for others in the sporting community. Their journey reflects the spirit of resilience and teamwork, promising an exciting season ahead.
