Island representatives from Kadavu have voiced their concerns regarding the persistent issue of unreliable internet connectivity during the National Rural Development Plan consultation. With this challenge being a long-standing problem, it significantly hampers access to information and effective communication within the communities of Kadavu.
Livi Tuvoli, the women’s representative from Kadavu, highlighted that the unreliable network adversely impacts many residents, particularly during urgent circumstances. “The network is bad, and we have to go to Vunisea if we want to get good connectivity and that is far and not convenient for everyone,” she stated. This situation often forces residents to travel lengthy distances just to relay essential messages, exacerbating the difficulties faced by islanders.
Tuvoli emphasized that inadequate internet connectivity is one of the primary obstacles faced by the island’s inhabitants, and she intends to bring this matter to the forefront during the consultation, ensuring it is considered as part of the new development plan. Addressing this issue could greatly enhance communication capabilities and overall quality of life for the residents of Kadavu, providing a pathway toward improved connectivity and integration with the broader digital landscape.
