Kabara Shocks Suva to Claim Historic Super 8 Title!

Kabara has made history by winning the inaugural Super 8 tournament title in Cricket Fiji. The team achieved a surprising victory against Suva, winning by two wickets in the final held at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

Traveling from their village with a youthful squad, Kabara successfully chased down Suva’s target of 224 runs, with captain Aminiasi Tadu hitting a six to secure the win with a total of 226 runs.

This victory comes just four months after Kabara claimed its first National Easter Cricket tournament title in April, marking a significant achievement for the team. The success was even sweeter as three of their young players were selected for the national men’s team, which will compete in the world cup qualifier in Samoa.

Captain Tadu shared insights about the team’s preparation, mentioning that out of an initial group of 20 players, only 14 dedicated individuals were able to represent the team in the tournament after some teammates broke the camp rules. The team spent two weeks in Suva preparing for the competition.

“We want to thank our relatives and families in Suva for their unwavering support. We recognize that life in the city poses challenges, but our families made sacrifices to support us during our two weeks here and throughout the tournament,” Tadu expressed. “This win is for them.”

The three players chosen for the national squad will remain in Suva to prepare for the qualifiers, while the rest of the team is set to depart in a week.
