Kabara Makes History with Super 8 Victory.

Kabara etched its name in Cricket Fiji’s history by winning the first-ever Super 8 tournament title.

The team stunned Suva by two wickets in the final held at Albert Park in Suva. Traveling from their village with a relatively young team, Kabara chased down Suva’s 224 runs, with captain Aminiasi Tadu hitting a six to close the game at 226 runs.

Having just won their first National Easter Cricket tournament title in April, Kabara backed it up with this championship shield four months later.

The victory was further sweetened with the selection of three youngsters from the team for the national men’s team that will represent Fiji at the World Cup qualifier in Samoa.

“Preparation was tough. Initially, there were 20 of us, and our coaches set strict camping rules. Some teammates broke camp and had to be dropped, leaving only 14 dedicated players to represent our team in this tournament,” said captain Tadu.

The team spent two weeks in Suva before the tournament. “We want to thank our relatives and families in Suva for their continuous support. We know that life in the city is not easy because everything requires money, but our families rose to the challenge, looking after us during our two-week stay and the four days we have been playing,” Tadu added. “This win is for them.”

The three players selected for the national team will remain in Suva to prepare for the qualifiers, while the rest will leave in a week’s time.
