K9 officers successfully tracked and arrested a man in Taveuni last night in connection with an alleged burglary. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu reported that the Taveuni Police Station received a call about a break-in at an estate, prompting the deployment of a K9 team.
Upon reaching the location, the K9 team quickly located the suspect and arrested him, recovering items that were reportedly stolen. The suspect is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
With the festive season approaching, ACP Driu highlighted the importance of K9 capabilities in supporting divisional operations through mobile and foot patrols. He urged property owners to adopt essential security measures to prevent burglaries.
Driu noted, “Some cases have shown no signs of forced entry, indicating that entries may have been left unlocked. Often, we rush and neglect security issues related to our homes, leading to burglaries.” He emphasized the necessity for everyone to remain vigilant as a proactive means to combat criminal and opportunistic behavior.
