K9 officers swiftly tracked down and apprehended a man linked to an alleged burglary in Taveuni last night. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu reported that the Taveuni Police Station received a call about a break-in at an estate, prompting the deployment of a K9 team.
Upon reaching the location, the K9 team successfully followed the suspect’s trail, leading to his arrest and the recovery of items believed to be stolen. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations are ongoing.
ACP Driu emphasized that as the festive season approaches, the capabilities of K9 units will enhance divisional operations through both mobile and foot patrols. He urged property owners to implement necessary security precautions, noting that some cases had no signs of forced entry, indicating that doors may have been left unlocked. He warned that overlooking security measures can lead to increased burglary incidents.
Driu encouraged the public to remain vigilant about security, stating it is the most effective way to combat criminal and opportunistic behavior.
