The Model Towns Charitable Trust has celebrated a significant achievement in its Stage K4 development, with general manager Paul Forrest commending the construction team for their impressive progress in housing delivery. The K4 stage, which began construction on May 9, 2022, is now on the verge of completion, featuring the construction of a total of 98 houses, the majority of which are already finished.

Mr. Forrest highlighted the team’s exceptional effort, stating, “We have built 94 houses in 811 working days, averaging one house every 8.6 days. Congratulations to the team for this outstanding achievement.” Following this rapid construction phase, the trust has shifted its focus towards essential utility connections and improving transport accessibility. Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) is actively working on installing power lines in the K4 sector, with nearly all houses already wired for electricity.

Additionally, the trust is advocating for necessary road enhancements to ensure a reliable bus service for the community. “We are lobbying for BS Charan Rd from Koroipita to Kings Rd to be upgraded so that a bus company can service the needs of the community. This is urgent as the houses are nearly all occupied,” Mr. Forrest elaborated.

In a forward-looking vision, the trust aims to broaden its objectives beyond housing, seeking to enhance community services. Plans are underway for a local canteen and a dedicated childcare center, emphasizing support for single parents re-entering the workforce. “This year we are progressing plans to build a Childcare facility so that single parents can get back in the workforce,” Mr. Forrest said.

To cater to the diverse needs of residents, the trust has also introduced various architectural designs, including specialized accommodations for the elderly. Two dormitory-style homes have been crafted, each housing three patients and a caregiver, which will be evaluated for future expansion. Besides these specialized units, the trust offers three standard residential designs: standard units, large units, and duplexes comprising two single units to accommodate families’ different requirements.

This development not only addresses housing demands but also fosters a sense of community and support among residents, setting a positive trajectory for future community growth.
