Juvenile Crime Wave: A Burgeoning Issue for Authorities

Last month, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions charged five juveniles with serious offenses. A 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man face charges of aggravated burglary and theft after they allegedly broke into the home of a 76-year-old woman, stealing a television, various household appliances, FJD $500, and AUD $250.

In a separate incident, three 17-year-old boys were charged with aggravated burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property. They are accused of breaking into a school and stealing five laptops along with a sound system speaker.

Additionally, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were charged with aggravated burglary and theft for allegedly breaking into the home of a 46-year-old man and stealing a laptop, a chainsaw, and a mobile phone.

In September, a total of 38 individuals were charged with 42 counts of non-sexual violence offenses. These offenses included one case of murder, one case of manslaughter due to breach of duty, five instances of aggravated robbery, nine cases of aggravated burglary, two burglaries, ten thefts, three charges of receiving stolen property, one act with intent to cause grievous harm, one charge of grievous harm, four counts of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs, three counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, and one breach of bail conditions along with one breach of a suspended sentence.
