Mohammed Aiyaz Ahmed, a 46-year-old man, has been sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment by the High Court for the brutal murder of his wife in Drasa Lautoka in 2019. In addition to the murder conviction, Ahmed was found guilty of violating a domestic violence restraining order (DVRO).
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Ahmed and his wife had faced serious marital difficulties, prompting them to secure legal protection through a DVRO. Just days prior to the murder, the victim had moved out, staying temporarily with her sister and taking their two children. She returned home on November 19, 2019, seeking to resolve their issues but was met with tragedy.
In a shocking turn of events, Ahmed entered his wife’s bedroom around 2 a.m. armed with a concealed knife. After waking her forcefully, he fatally slashed her throat and stabbed her multiple times. Following the attack, Ahmed attempted to clean himself and disposed of the knife in a well before heading to work.
The High Court judge condemned Ahmed’s actions, describing the murder as premeditated and marked by extreme violence.
