A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the rape and sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman in Lami, according to a recent ruling by the High Court. The incident is noted as particularly disturbing, as the victim had sought assistance for a back massage at the man’s home, where she was staying due to transport-related hardships.
Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu, who presided over the case, emphasized the violation of trust inherent in the act, stating that the rape occurred in a place where the victim should have felt safe. The sexual assault charge added an additional three-year sentence, which has been ordered to run concurrently.
