Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga has recently commented on efforts to discredit the Coalition Government, asserting that he is being unfairly targeted amid ongoing investigations into allegations of nepotism and bias. In a statement to FijiLive, Turaga addressed various misdemeanours linked to his position, including his involvement in the appointment of Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa as the Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service. He expressed that he was unaware of the individuals making the allegations and chose not to comment further on the matter.

Turaga informed that some investigations have reached completion and are now pending decisions from the Prime Minister. He also revealed that a Cabinet Paper regarding amendments to the Electoral Act and related legislations is currently being prepared for the Office of the Solicitor-General. The Minister highlighted that the Electoral Commission has faced challenges due to the absence of a Chairperson and affirmed that discussions regarding reforms are in progress.

Looking ahead, Turaga anticipates a busy year in 2025 for the Coalition Government as they work towards accomplishing their strategic objectives. These developments showcase the government’s commitment to addressing electoral processes and other legislative reforms, potentially leading to a more functional and efficient political landscape.

In summary, while facing allegations, the Minister remains focused on legislative reforms and the future goals of the government. This proactive approach may pave the way for necessary changes in Fiji’s governance structure, fostering hope for a more transparent political environment.
