It has been two months since the heartbreaking death of Jonathan Lui, who tragically lost his life following an alleged violent robbery after a vehicular accident on September 25, 2024. The 24-year-old was involved in a car accident on Velau Drive in Kinoya, Nasinu, during which his vehicle reportedly veered off the road.
Jonathan’s father, Ramanu Caladuadua, claims that after the accident, while he was seeking assistance, Jonathan was attacked and robbed by bystanders. The identity of these assailants remains unknown. Upon his admission to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Jonathan had visible injuries and marks on his body and head. Sadly, he passed away on December 10, 2024.
Mr. Caladuadua is now advocating for a comprehensive investigation into his son’s death and has urged the police to hold accountable those responsible. He expressed frustration after being informed by the Valelevu Police Station that Jonathan’s case had been closed due to a lack of evidence and witnesses. However, after reaching out to the investigating officer, he learned that the case was still open and that efforts were ongoing to gather statements.
“We are seeking closure and asking the police to identify those who harmed our Jonathan. If this could happen to him, it could happen to anyone,” Mr. Caladuadua stated, illustrating the broader implications of the case and the fear looming over the community.
The police’s handling of the investigation has raised concerns about their commitment to achieving justice for Jonathan and his family. Mr. Caladuadua emphasized the need for accountability, voicing his belief that the police have not dedicated enough effort to resolve the case.
