Digicel Fiji Junior Kulas head coach Marika Rodu recognized that the team could have performed better during their opening match at the Oceania Football Confederation Women’s Under-16 Championship, which took place on Sunday at HFC Bank Stadium. The match ended in a 3-3 draw against Tonga, who mounted a significant comeback towards the end.
Rodu stressed the importance of identifying and addressing the team’s weaknesses as they advance in the tournament. He praised the girls for their goal-scoring efforts while noting that their overall performance was just above average.
“First game, a lot to learn from. I think the girls gave their best to score a few goals. The result we didn’t want, and the performance was slightly above average, I would say,” stated Rodu. “Although it was the first game, it’s going to be difficult as we progress in the tournament, but we must maintain consistency.”
He emphasized the fair nature of their play and committed to extra efforts for the remaining matches. Looking ahead to their upcoming game against the Cook Islands, Rodu highlighted the need for consistency and improvements in their defensive line to enhance their strategy. He also underscored the importance of confidence with the ball and generating goal-scoring chances.
The Junior Kulas are set to face the Cook Islands tomorrow at 3 pm.
