Digicel Fiji Junior Kulas head coach Marika Rodu acknowledged that the team’s performance could have been better in their opening match at the Oceania Football Confederation Women’s Under-16 Championship held on Sunday at the HFC Bank Stadium. The match ended in a 3-3 draw with Tonga, who made a strong comeback in the final moments.
Rodu emphasized the need for the team to recognize its weaknesses and focus on improvement as they move through the tournament. Despite the draw, he praised the girls for their goal-scoring efforts, rating their performance as slightly above average.
“First game, a lot to learn from. I think the girls gave their best to score a few goals. The result wasn’t what we wanted, and the performance was slightly above average, I would say,” Rodu remarked. He noted that the tournament would present challenges, but consistency would be key to their success.
He added that the team played fairly and that they would put in extra effort for the upcoming matches. As they look ahead to their next game against the Cook Islands, Rodu stressed the importance of maintaining consistency and refining their defensive strategy. He also highlighted the need to bolster their confidence with the ball and to generate more goal-scoring chances.
The Junior Kulas are set to face the Cook Islands tomorrow at 3 pm.
