Digicel Fiji Junior Kulas head coach Marika Rodu has expressed confidence in his team’s preparation for their opening match against Tonga in the upcoming Oceania Football Confederation Under-16 Women’s Championship. As the final week of training approaches, Rodu is pleased with the girls’ fitness levels and overall readiness for the tournament.
The team has been concentrating on refining their attacking and defensive strategies in anticipation of the challenge posed by Tonga. Rodu acknowledges that the opening match will be tough, as is often the case with first games in tournaments.
“It’s well underway, and we’re at the last stages of our preparation, just trying to taper things down. The girls are in good condition and ready for the match against Tonga,” Rodu said. He added, “We don’t expect it to be an easy game because the first match is always challenging, but our goal is to settle down quickly and engage fully in the game.”
Rodu remains optimistic about the Junior Kulas’ prospects and is determined to secure a victory and earn three points from the match against Tonga. The OFC U16 Women’s Championship will begin tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, with the Junior Kulas playing against Tonga at 3 PM. Teams in the championship will compete for places at the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup in Morocco next year.
