Junior Kulas Aiming for Redemption After Draw in Opening Match

Digicel Fiji Junior Kulas head coach Marika Rodu expressed that the team had room for improvement following their opening match at the Oceania Football Confederation Women’s Under-16 Championship. The match, which took place at the HFC Bank Stadium on Sunday, ended in a 3-3 draw against Tonga, who made a notable comeback in the closing stages.

Rodu pointed out the importance of recognizing weaknesses and emphasized the need for the team to enhance their performance as they advance in the tournament. He praised the players for their goal-scoring efforts, describing their overall performance as slightly above average.

“It’s the first game, and there’s a lot to learn from it. The girls put in their best effort to score several goals. We didn’t achieve the result we hoped for, but it was a decent performance,” Rodu stated.

He acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, emphasizing the necessity for consistency throughout the tournament. “We played fair and square, and we will work extra hard for our upcoming matches,” he added.

As the Junior Kulas prepare to face the Cook Islands, Rodu highlighted the critical need for consistent play and improvements in their defensive strategy. He also stressed the importance of maintaining ball confidence and creating more scoring opportunities.

The Junior Kulas will compete against the Cook Islands tomorrow at 3 PM.
