Digicel Fiji Junior Kulas head coach Marika Rodu has acknowledged that the team could have performed better in their opening match at the Oceania Football Confederation Women’s Under-16 Championship, which took place on Sunday at the HFC Bank Stadium. The match ended in a 3-3 draw against Tonga, who made a strong resurgence towards the end.
Rodu emphasized the necessity for the players to work on their weaknesses as they advance through the tournament. While he found aspects of their performance commendable, stating they scored well, he remarked that it was just above average.
“First game, a lot to learn from. I think the girls gave their best to score a few goals. The result wasn’t what we wanted, and the performance was slightly above average, I would say,” Rodu said.
Although it was their initial match, he acknowledged the challenges ahead and emphasized the importance of consistency.
“We played the game fair and square and we will be working extra hard for our other matches,” he added.
As the team gears up for their next match against the Cook Islands, Rodu highlighted the need for consistency and improvements in their defensive strategy. He also noted the importance of maintaining confidence while in possession and creating opportunities to score.
The Junior Kulas are set to face the Cook Islands tomorrow at 3 pm.
