Nancy Tikoisuva has been reappointed as the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), effective as of Monday. She confirmed that her new appointment commenced on February 10 and directed any inquiries to the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) for further information.
Ms. Tikoisuva had previously stepped down from the position last month due to the anticipated return of the reinstated DPP, Christopher Pryde, who was expected to resume his role on January 21. However, his return was delayed due to allegations of abuse of office linked to financial irregularities, including unauthorized gratuity and life insurance payments.
Since February 3, when Mr. Pryde was scheduled to return, there have been no updates from the JSC regarding his situation, leading to ongoing questions about his status. Attempts to contact Mr. Pryde for clarification went unanswered at the time of reporting.
In a prior statement, the Office of the President indicated that the JSC governs the DPP’s contract and related issues, such as leave, while also holding the authority to make necessary appointments in accordance with the law.
This situation highlights the ongoing challenges within the judicial system and the mechanisms in place to address issues of accountability and governance. As the JSC navigates these complications, the hope is for transparency and resolution, ensuring the integrity of the office is maintained.
