Two individuals facing murder charges in connection with the death of a Fiji-born Canadian national near Korovou in Tailevu have had their judgment postponed to February 6, 2025. Salimoni Lagicere and Edward Nand were set to receive their decision today regarding the alleged murder of Narend Chand, but the ruling was delayed by Suva Judge Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull.
It is reported that Narend Chand had intended to meet a woman he had been conversing with on social media, unaware that her profile was fake and managed by one of the accused. Allegedly, the accused had plotted to meet with Chand and rob him upon his arrival in Fiji. Tragically, after he landed, Chand was accompanied under the guise of meeting this woman, and his body was later discovered floating in the Waimaro River near Waito Settlement in Tailevu.
The legal proceedings are being supervised by the Director of Public Prosecutions, with Zenith Zunaid serving as the state’s representative. Lagicere’s defense is handled by lawyer Loqi Cati, while Nand is represented by lawyer Sunil Gosai.
Although the situation is dire, there remains hope for justice to prevail as the legal process unfolds, and the upcoming judgment date allows for thorough examination of the case. This delay could provide more opportunity for both the prosecution and defense to present their arguments robustly, ensuring a fair trial.
Summary: The judgment for two men accused of murdering Narend Chand has been postponed to February 6, 2025, after they allegedly conspired to rob him under false pretenses. The case raises significant concerns about online safety and the potential dangers of social media interactions.
