Two men, Salimoni Lagicere and Edward Nand, accused of the murder of Canadian national Narend Chand, will have to wait until February 6, 2025, for their judgment. The decision was postponed by Suva Judge Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull.

Chand, a Fiji-born Canadian, was reportedly lured to Fiji under the pretense of meeting a woman he had been communicating with on social media. Unbeknownst to him, the profile was fake and managed by one of the accused. It is alleged that the men had conspired to rob Chand when he arrived in Fiji. Tragically, his body was later discovered in the Waimaro River near Waito Settlement in Tailevu.

The legal proceedings are being handled with the involvement of the Director of Public Prosecutions, with lawyer Zenith Zunaid representing the state. Lagicere is being defended by lawyer Loqi Cati, while Nand’s legal representation comes from lawyer Sunil Gosai.

This case underscores the serious consequences related to online interactions and the importance of safety while connecting with others through social media. As the legal process unfolds, it is crucial for communities to remain vigilant against similar threats and ensure the safety of individuals engaging in online relationships.

It is hoped that justice will prevail in this tragic case, offering some closure to Chand’s family and highlighting the necessity of vigilance in online communications.
