Joyful Giving: Pacific Recycling Foundation’s Heartwarming Christmas Initiative for Underprivileged Kids

The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) has kicked off its Annual Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive aimed at supporting the children of the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR). This initiative, in collaboration with Pacific Energy, is now entering its third year, focusing on bringing joy to the families who work diligently to maintain environmental sustainability through recycling, often facing considerable challenges and limited means.

Amitesh Deo, the founder of PRF, emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “We should not be this broken as a community that some of our children are left without gifts during Christmas.” For many children from CPR families, the holiday season can feel more like a reminder of hardships rather than a time for celebration, as their parents labor in dumpsites and public spaces, striving to make ends meet.

Started in 2021, the Christmas Drive addresses these disparities by providing not just gifts, but also essential school supplies to help these children begin the new year with confidence. Over the course of the past two years, the initiative has successfully reached over 600 children across Fiji, thanks to generous contributions from the community and partnering organizations.

“This drive is about showing these children that they are seen, valued, and loved,” Deo remarked. He also highlighted the often-overlooked role of CPR parents as critical contributors to Fiji’s recycling efforts, working under difficult conditions that many would find hard to imagine. In many cases, basic essentials like food take priority for these families, leaving little room for items like toys or school supplies. The goal of the initiative is to relieve this burden, allowing parents to provide new, special gifts to their children rather than relying on discarded items.

PRF is extending an invitation to businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate in the Christmas spirit by donating gifts and stationery. The gifts should be suitable for children, free from violent themes, and ideally environmentally friendly to match PRF’s sustainability commitment.

Contributions can be delivered to Malhana Cloud Kitchen Restaurant on Koronivia Road or placed in designated boxes at select Pacific Energy Service Stations. Between December 16 and 20, PRF teams will distribute Christmas hampers filled with gifts, festive treats, and personal messages to the children served by CPR.

This initiative not only brings joy and support to the children and families involved but also serves as a reminder of the power of community spirit in bringing hope and dignity to those in need. By participating, individuals and businesses can help make this Christmas a memorable one for these deserving children.

In summary, the PRF’s Annual Christmas Drive is a meaningful effort to uplift the spirits of children from families who play a crucial role in recycling and environmental protection, demonstrating the community’s compassion and commitment to helping those less fortunate during the holiday season.
