Wainikiti Latuvere Leana has exemplified remarkable resilience in her pursuit of academic success. Recently, the 26-year-old celebrated her graduation with a degree in Tourism Studies and Management from the University of Fiji’s School of Business and Economics.
Hailing from Voua Village in Nadroga and with family roots in Balenabelo Village, Ms. Leana currently oversees Coastline Fiji in Sigatoka. After completing high school, she dedicated seven years to working at Jacks of Fiji before deciding to advance her education, drawing inspiration from her late sister, Savaira Basiyalo.
“She was my motivation. I wish she could have been here to see my accomplishment,” Ms. Leana remarked.
The journey was not without its challenges; juggling work, studies, and family commitments proved to be a demanding task. Ms. Leana prioritized her education, often skipping social events and church services to focus on her assignments and study sessions.
“I listened to sermons on the radio later. My primary goal was to complete my degree,” she shared. Despite the mental toll, including numerous sleepless nights dedicated to assignments and presentations, she persevered.
“A lot of effort went into balancing everything. It was tough, but ultimately, it was all worth it,” she stated.
Ms. Leana expressed heartfelt gratitude towards her family for their constant support, dedicating her achievement to her late sister, as well as her parents and siblings. Her mother, Makereta Tupou, could not contain her emotions during the graduation ceremony. “I cried watching her cross the stage to receive her certificate. It was an incredibly proud moment. We’ve faced many hurdles, but with God’s strength, we overcame them,” shared Ms. Tupou.
