Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Anthony Joshua, is confident that the former champion will face Daniel Dubois again in a rematch. Joshua, 34, was knocked out by the 27-year-old Dubois in the fifth round during their recent bout at Wembley Stadium, losing the chance to claim the IBF world heavyweight title.
After the event, which attracted a crowd of 96,000, Hearn expressed his belief that Joshua would activate the rematch clause. He emphasized the need for Joshua to take a break given the risks involved, noting Dubois’ increasing confidence. “He’ll believe he can beat him,” Hearn said, while also acknowledging Dubois’ impressive performance.
Conversely, Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren has his sights set on a match against Oleksandr Usyk, who is gearing up for a rematch against Tyson Fury in December. Warren stated that Usyk is currently viewed as the best heavyweight and recalled a tough fight he had with Dubois earlier this year.
“Everyone witnessed a champion’s performance tonight. I think he’s done everything that’s been asked of him,” Warren commented on Dubois’ recent victory.
In response to questions about future opponents, Dubois expressed interest in facing Usyk for a chance at redemption, saying, “This is my time, this is my redemption story and I’m not going to stop until I reach my full potential.”
Reflecting on his fourth professional loss, Joshua acknowledged Dubois’ skills and thanked the fans for their support, stating, “You know I’m ready to kick off in the ring but I’m going to keep my cool and keep very professional.”
