Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Anthony Joshua, believes that the defeated boxer will take on Daniel Dubois in a rematch. Joshua, 34, faced a knockout loss against Dubois in the fifth round during their fight at Wembley Stadium, missing out on the IBF world heavyweight title. However, it appears Joshua will have the opportunity to challenge his 27-year-old rival again.
After the bout, which attracted a crowd of 96,000, Hearn expressed confidence that Joshua would activate the rematch clause, stating, “I am sure he’ll exercise that rematch clause. I think that’s a given.” He acknowledged the need for Joshua to have some rest before stepping back into the ring, noting the growing confidence of Dubois as a formidable opponent.
Hearn commended Dubois for his performance, saying, “Full credit to Daniel Dubois, he deserves all the credit tonight.” In a contrasting perspective, Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, is eager to see his fighter face Oleksandr Usyk, who is set to challenge Tyson Fury in December. Warren highlighted Usyk’s status as the top heavyweight and recalled their previous match in which Dubois had given Usyk a tough fight.
Warren remarked on the impressive performances from both fighters in the ring. Dubois himself hinted at a desire for a match against Usyk for what he referred to as his “redemption story,” asserting his determination to reach his full potential after a challenging journey.
Reflecting on his fourth professional defeat, Joshua acknowledged Dubois’ skills and expressed appreciation for the fans who attended the fight. He maintained a composure expected of a professional athlete and showed respect for his opponent despite his disappointment.
