Eddie Hearn, promoter for Anthony Joshua, expresses confidence that Joshua will trigger a rematch with Daniel Dubois following their recent bout. Joshua, 34, lost to Dubois, 27, via knockout in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium, which also cost him the IBF world heavyweight title.
After the fight, Hearn commented in front of the 96,000 attendees, saying, “I am sure he’ll exercise that rematch clause. I think that’s a given. But he’ll need a rest as this is a dangerous fight. Dubois is growing in confidence, but Joshua will believe he can hurt him and can beat him. Full credit to Daniel Dubois; he deserves all the recognition tonight for his great performance.”
Meanwhile, Frank Warren, Dubois’ promoter, is keen to see Dubois take on Oleksandr Usyk, who is set to face Tyson Fury in a rematch this December. Warren stated, “Oleksandr Usyk is currently viewed as the best heavyweight in the world, and he presented Dubois with his toughest fight back in 2023. I’d like to see them fight now, but first, Dubois has to get past Tyson, who I think will take him down.”
In a show of respect for his opponent, Dubois expressed, “This is my time, this is my redemption story, and I’m not going to stop until I reach my full potential.” When asked about his future ambitions, he mentioned that he would be open to fighting anyone, including Usyk.
Reflecting on his fourth career loss, Joshua acknowledged Dubois’ skills and the effort of his team. “We rolled the dice for success and came up short. I appreciate everyone here at Wembley tonight. You know I’m frustrated, but I’ll maintain my professionalism and respect for my opponent.”
