Joshua Dubois Rematch: What’s Next for the Heavyweight Clash?

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Anthony Joshua, is confident that the British boxer will face Daniel Dubois again in a rematch. Joshua, 34, was defeated by Dubois in the fifth round during their fight at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, resulting in him losing the IBF world heavyweight title. However, a rematch appears likely for Joshua against the 27-year-old Dubois.

After the match, which drew a crowd of 96,000, Hearn expressed his belief that Joshua will activate the rematch clause. He stated, “I am sure he’ll exercise that rematch clause. I think that’s a given. But he’ll need a rest and it’s a dangerous fight. This guy (Dubois) is growing in confidence all the time but he’ll believe he can hurt Dubois. He’ll believe he can beat him. But full credit to Daniel Dubois, he deserves all the credit tonight; it was a great performance from Daniel.”

On the other hand, Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, is looking to have him face Oleksandr Usyk, who is set to challenge Tyson Fury for the second time in December. Warren remarked, “Oleksandr Usyk is considered to be the best heavyweight in the world at the moment, and he gave him his toughest fight during their first encounter. I’d like to see him fight Usyk now, but he has to first take on Tyson, and I think Tyson will come out on top.”

Warren praised Dubois’ performance, stating, “Everybody here saw a champion’s performance tonight. Two great fighters in the ring, and I think he’s done everything that’s been asked of him. He showed his courage, skills, and resilience. When AJ caught him with a shot, I was worried, but he responded with a counter.”

Dubois also expressed his desire for a shot at redemption against Usyk, saying, “Maybe Usyk, a big shot at my redemption. Anyone… anyone can get it. I’ve just been on a rollercoaster ride. This is my time, this is my redemption story, and I’m not going to stop until I reach my full potential.”

Reflecting on his fourth professional defeat, Joshua acknowledged Dubois’ performance, saying, “Credit to him and his team. We rolled the dice at success and we came up short. But I want to say everyone at Wembley, I appreciate you coming out this evening. You know I’m frustrated, and I’m ready to fight, but I’m going to keep my cool and remain professional and give respect to my opponent.”
