Illustration of Hill Hopes to Continue Winning Streak

Jonathan Hill aims for knockout victory against Labasa’s Rupeni Rokoratu to boost ranking and title hopes

Jonathan Hill is optimistic about extending his winning streak as he prepares for his second professional bout against Labasa’s Rupeni Rokoratu in the South Pacific boxing promotion in Labasa next month.

“Preparation has been good, and we’re always ready, Winston (his younger brother) and I,” Hill said.

“My approach in this fight is to knock out Rokoratu so I can improve my ranking.”

Hill is eyeing a title fight, contingent on a victory against Rokoratu.

“This is the first time I will be fighting him (Rokoratu), and it’s almost like amateur boxing; we just go in and deal with it in the ring,” he said.

“My motivation to win the fight will be my son.”

Hill mentioned that he did not study his opponent, focusing instead on fine-tuning his own ability and strength.

“It’s been good to have my younger brother Winston in my preparation, and I guess it makes my opponent wary of me,” he said.

“This will also be my first time fighting in Labasa.”

Hill emerged victorious in his first professional fight in the super middleweight division against Donasio Macedru in the Lewis Hill boxing promotions at Vodafone Arena, Suva last year.

“I’m trying to improve my fitness in my preparation with the aim to win,” he said.

“I was unfit in my last fight, but I got the job done.”

Hill noted that he has gained valuable experience from his previous professional bout.

“I will be aiming for the super middleweight title of Fiji after this fight and possibly the light heavyweight as well,” he said.

“We’ll see whoever has the title; I’ll be going after them.”
