Joji Nasova, a rover for Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens, is determined to claim the series title with his team in the upcoming year. The native of Toge, Ba, was instrumental in his team’s recent triumph at the HSBC SVNS title after 25 tournaments, and he credited their success to strong teamwork.
Nasova made his debut at the Hong Kong Sevens just four months after representing Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands. His performance earned him a place on the team that secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games in July, under the guidance of coach Osea Kolinisau.
Expressing his gratitude, Nasova stated, “I can only thank God for all He has provided for me.” He emphasized the need for continuous learning and teamwork to achieve their goal of winning the series next year. “I’m grateful for everything I have achieved, as coach Kolisau said we can achieve anything if we’re disciplined on and off the field,” he added.
Reflecting on his journey, the former Dominion Brothers player acknowledged that pursuing rugby was crucial for supporting his family after not completing high school or securing a traditional job. “I gave my all to rugby, and it has brought me this far. I’m able to support my family,” he revealed.
Nasova’s brother, Iliavi Masori, was also part of the national sevens extended squad, and they played together during the Honiara Pacific Games. The men’s sevens team is now on a two-week break and will enter camp in January to prepare for the Perth Sevens scheduled for January 24-26.
This story highlights Nasova’s inspiring journey and the potential for success in team sports, especially when driven by passion and dedication. It showcases how determination in sports can positively impact personal lives and the community.
