Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens player Joji Nasova is determined to claim the series title next year with his team. The talented athlete from Toge, Ba, played a pivotal role in the team’s recent triumph at the HSBC SVNS title after competing in 25 tournaments, an achievement he describes as incredibly satisfying due to the teamwork involved.

At just 26, Nasova made his debut at the Hong Kong Sevens only four months after representing Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands. His impressive performance on the field, characterized by hard-hitting tackles, earned him a spot in the squad that secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games in July, under coach Osea Kolinisau.

Expressing gratitude for his achievements, Nasova stated, “I can only thank God for all He has provided for me.” He believes that their goal for the upcoming year can only be met through collective effort and discipline, both on and off the field. Reflecting on his journey, he noted his commitment to rugby as a means to support his family, especially since he did not complete high school or hold a formal job.

Notably, Nasova’s brother, Iliavi Masori, is also part of the national sevens extended squad, and they played together at the Pacific Games. The men’s sevens team will take a two-week break before resuming training in January, gearing up for the Perth 7s set to take place from January 24-26.

This story highlights not only the personal growth and determination of Joji Nasova but also the spirit of teamwork in achieving success. With the continued support of each other and their coaching staff, there is a hopeful outlook for the team’s performance in future tournaments.
