The Greater Good Foundation in Lautoka is making a heartfelt appeal to the community to help provide food for around 300 dogs in its care, many of whom are females and puppies that have suffered from hunger for extended periods. In a recent social media post, the Foundation expressed the emotional and physical toll these animals have endured, stating, “Every meal we provide helps rebuild their trust and restores their frail bodies.”
Facing a significant food shortage last December, the organization nearly ran out of supplies needed to feed the dogs daily. While the Foundation is grateful for the past support from local residents who have contributed through donations or by settling their food bills directly, it now finds its monthly food expenses surpassing its financial capabilities. To alleviate the need for constant urgent appeals, the Foundation is seeking consistent donations that would cover a $5,000 monthly food bill, encouraging community members to contribute as little as $16.50 per month to ensure that at least one street dog is fed.
Donors can contribute through the Foundation’s website, and those who prefer traditional methods can also make direct deposits using the provided banking details.
This initiative aligns with other efforts across Fiji aimed at enhancing animal welfare. The Pacific Animal Shelter and Hospital (PASH) in Nadi, for instance, is attempting to raise $100,000 to expand their facilities and create a specialized boarding service for pets. As the community rallies around these important causes, there is reason to be hopeful that concerted efforts will result in better living conditions for animals throughout Fiji.
The Greater Good Foundation’s outreach exemplifies the growing recognition of the challenges faced by vulnerable animals and reflects the positive impact that a united community can have in promoting animal welfare. This appeal not only seeks immediate assistance but also works to build a culture of compassion where the well-being of animals is a shared priority.
