“Join the Fight: PM Urges Schools and Communities to Combat Drug Crisis”

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS), Queen Victoria School (QVS), and communities in Tailevu North to unite with the Government in combatting the rise of narcotics in Fiji.

During the RKS Centennial celebration at Albert Park in Suva, he revealed that city cleaners had discovered signs of drug use in trash collected on Sunday morning after the Hibiscus Festival.

“I mentioned this in my statement on Saturday night at the Hibiscus event, and I hoped that the cleanup would not reveal any signs of drug use at our venue or others along the Suva foreshore,” Mr. Rabuka stated.

He further noted that he had requested police to examine the rubbish at the Hibiscus venue, which led to the discovery of drug-related evidence.

“I hope we can tackle this issue as a community and work together to eliminate the negative influences affecting our society,” he said. “I have faith that the Lodoni/RKS community is capable of this.”

Rabuka expressed his hope that RKS would continue to be a guiding light, cultivating exceptional citizens who will positively impact the nation in the future.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, marijuana, and syringes near the festival locations.

“We have evidence of syringe use based on loose syringes found around the area, especially near Nabukalou Creek and behind Village 6 cinema and the Bowling Club,” ACP Driu reported.

He indicated that arrests had been made following the discovery of the syringes and expressed concern that the public had not reported these issues, making it difficult to determine how the syringes were being used.
