John Wesley College clinched victory in both the under-16 and under-18 categories of the secondary schools touch rugby tournament organized by Touch Federation Fiji during the Hibiscus Festival.
The two-day event took place at Albert Park starting Monday. In the under-18 final, John Wesley triumphed over Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College with a score of 5-3. Additionally, their under-16 team also secured a win against Queen Victoria School, finishing 3-2.
In the under-16 journey, John Wesley navigated through pool matches successfully, winning against QVS 4-3, followed by Marist Brothers High School 4-3, and advancing to the quarter-finals with a 4-0 victory over Lami High School. They continued their strong performance by beating Suva Grammar School 6-2, and then faced Marist again in the semi-finals, winning 3-1. The final pitted them against QVS, where they emerged victorious with a score of 3-1 after QVS reached the final by defeating Lami High School 3-2.
In the under-18 category, John Wesley started strong with a 3-1 victory over QVS. However, they faced a setback against MGM, losing 5-4. Undeterred, they bounced back to defeat SGS 6-3 in their last pool match. In the semi-finals, John Wesley dominated QVS with a score of 7-2, setting the stage for a rematch against MGM in the final. This time, John Wesley turned the tide, defeating MGM 5-3 to win the under-18 grade.
