Joe’s Farm Reimagined: From Grocery Aisle to Groundbreaking Development

Michael Joe is making a significant comeback in the business world. After transitioning from a farmer and grocer to a landlord during the COVID-19 pandemic, he has now taken on the role of property developer.

He recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a $6 million project in the capital. This development comes on the heels of the closure of his well-known supermarket, Joe’s Farm. The ceremony, held in Samabula, was attended by Tui Suva, Sanaila Madanavosa, who praised Joe for his entrepreneurial spirit and the promising nature of his new venture.

The first structure in what will become a series of Joe’s Farm buildings is currently being built on Ratu Mara Road, with plans for a three-story complex expected to be completed by December of next year.

Joe, known for his diverse business ventures, has continuously adapted and reinvented his business strategies. He has a history as a serial entrepreneur, with experience as a farmer, golfer, exporter, grocer, business consultant, investor, and more.

He revealed that he has established a joint venture with Cibus New Zealand to export locally grown produce from various farms across the nation. Furthermore, he is collaborating with the Government to create contracts for farmers, enhancing the agricultural sector.

This month, Joe will see one of his projects come to fruition as he exports coconuts and dalo from Rotuma—a first for the island. “A truck will go around the island to collect both products for export,” he said, noting the historical significance of the shipment to New Zealand.

For Joe, the cornerstone of his success lies in a simple principle: Fear the Lord.
