Michael Joe has made a notable return to the business scene following the challenges posed by COVID-19. Transitioning from his roles as a farmer and grocer, he has now taken on the positions of landlord and property developer.
At a groundbreaking ceremony held yesterday for a $6 million project in the capital, Joe announced his next venture after closing his widely-known supermarket, Joe’s Farm. The event, which took place in Samabula, featured Tui Suva, Sanaila Madanavosa, who praised the ambitious nature of the development.
The new project on Ratu Mara Road marks the beginning of many Joe’s Farm structures. A three-storey complex is scheduled for completion by December next year.
Joe’s entrepreneurial journey reflects a commitment to reinventing business practices. He has worn many hats, engaging in various pursuits from farming and golfing to exporting and business consulting.
“As part of our efforts, we established a joint venture with Cibus New Zealand to export locally grown produce from various farms across the country,” Joe stated. He also mentioned collaborating with the government to secure contracts for farmers.
This month, one of his numerous business endeavors is set to bear fruit as he prepares to export coconuts and dalo from Rotuma. “A truck will collect these products from around the island for export, marking a milestone for Rotuma,” he added, highlighting the first shipment heading to New Zealand.
Joe attributes his success to a straightforward philosophy: “Fear the Lord.”
