The Fiji Airways men’s sevens team, the defending champions of the Singapore Sevens, arrived in Singapore early Monday morning at 5 a.m. Despite the challenges of jet lag, the team, under the leadership of coach Osea Kolinisau, showed confidence as they geared up to defend their title this weekend.

“We reached the hotel at 6 a.m., checked in, had breakfast, and then held a gym and pool session,” Kolinisau reported. He noted that despite the boys feeling tired and dealing with jet lag, they conducted a clarity session in the afternoon focused on skills to ensure they were prepared for the week ahead. Fortunately, there have been no injuries, and the team is brimming with positive energy as they look forward to the tournament.

Since their arrival, the team has adapted quickly to the Singapore climate and time zone, intensifying training in preparation for their title defense. Last year, Fiji staged a remarkable comeback in the final, overcoming a 0-7 deficit against Kenya. Viuwa Naduvalo sparked the turnaround with two quick tries in the second half, and Rauto Vakadranu solidified the victory with a team try in the 12th minute. Naduvalo’s performance earned him the player of the match accolade, marking a memorable night for the team.

The positive energy surrounding the Fiji team bodes well as they chase another victory at one of the premier events in the rugby sevens calendar, emphasizing their determination and focus in retaining the championship title.
