Jasper Williams Primary School Shines at Rugby Festival.

Jasper Williams Primary School made their debut at the Lautoka Primary Schools Rugby Festival yesterday.

Thirteen-year-old Mereani Botitu shared that the team was excited and overwhelmed when they received the news about participating in the two-day festival.

“We have always been part of the GIR program but never participated in competition before. This year, we were very happy to hear the news that we would participate in the festival. All the girls prepared well and looked forward to this day, praying to God for good weather,” Botitu said.

When asked about their focus in rugby, Botitu mentioned that their primary goal is to develop their rugby talents and secure overseas contracts.

“Our focus is to become good rugby players, wear the Fiji jersey, and play overseas,” she concluded with her teammates.

The festival marks an important milestone for Jasper Williams Primary School, as it provides the girls with a platform to showcase their skills and passion for the sport.

The school’s participation in the festival is a testament to their dedication and hard work, as well as a sign of growing opportunities for young female athletes in Fiji.

LPSRA president Rusiate Cinavilakeba mentioned the importance of such events in promoting rugby at the grassroots level.

“It is encouraging to see schools like Jasper Williams Primary participating in the festival. This event is not just about competition, but about development, instilling values, and providing opportunities for young talents to grow,” Cinavilakeba said.
