Jarryd Hayne’s Stunning Rugby League Comeback?

Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne is potentially set to make a dramatic return to rugby league, with Fiji’s national team coach Wise Kativerata revealing that discussions are underway about Hayne joining the team for this year’s Pacific Championships.

Having last played competitively in 2018, Hayne’s possible comeback is stirring significant interest in the rugby league community. Kativerata has publicly indicated that the opportunity for the 36-year-old to reconnect with top-tier rugby league is available.

“The door is open for him if he wants to join,” Kativerata stated. “He is fit but we are just waiting on his decision if he is interested, which will be a boost for the team.”

Hayne was released from prison in June after his conviction was overturned on appeal. Since then, he has been training with sprinting coach Roger Fabri, aiming for a return to professional sports. Fabri emphasized Hayne’s elite athletic capabilities, saying, “He is one guy you can never, ever disregard when he puts his mind to something.”

The complexities surrounding Hayne’s decision to represent Fiji may lead to controversy, especially since he currently does not hold an NRL contract. He would need to secure approval from the ARL Commission to participate in the Pacific Championships.

Hayne has previously played for Fiji, in addition to representing Australia at the international level, and he participated in Rugby Sevens for Fiji in 2016, making him a significant asset for the team.
