Jarryd Hayne’s Shocking Rugby League Comeback?

Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne could be making an exciting comeback to rugby league, as Fiji’s national team coach Wise Kativerata has initiated discussions about Hayne joining the squad for this year’s Pacific Championships.

Hayne, who last played competitively in 2018, is garnering significant attention as speculation surrounds his potential return. Kativerata has indicated that there is an opportunity for the 36-year-old to re-enter the upper echelons of rugby league.

“The door is open for him if he wants to join,” Kativerata stated. “He is fit, but we are just waiting on his decision if he is interested, which would be a boost for the team.”

Following his release from prison in June after his conviction was overturned on appeal, Hayne has been collaborating with sprint coach Roger Fabri, focusing on a return to professional sports. “Jarryd is an elite athlete,” Fabri remarked. “He is one guy you can never disregard when he puts his mind to something.”

However, Hayne’s decision to represent Fiji could be intricate and contentious, especially since he currently lacks an NRL contract. He would need the approval of the ARL Commission to compete in the Pacific Championships.

Hayne has previously played for both Fiji and Australia at the international level and took part in Rugby Sevens for Fiji in 2016, making him a valuable asset for the team.
