Jarome Luai has made a solid declaration regarding his future with the Wests Tigers, emphasizing that he has “no intention” of leaving the club and expressing comfort in his current role. “I’m comfortable in these colours and I want to be here,” he stated, offering a message of hope to the club’s loyal supporters who are eager to witness an end to their lengthy 15-season finals drought by 2026.
Luai joined the Tigers from Penrith last season under a five-year contract, which includes a clause allowing him the option to exit following the current season if activated by April 30, 2026. However, Luai remains determined to see out his contract and contribute to the Tigers’ growth under new coach Benji Marshall, who has signed an extension through 2030.
“Benji is a big part of why I’m here and a big part of why other boys made the move over,” Luai explained, adding that there is growing confidence in the club’s direction. He acknowledged the importance of his leadership on the team, declaring, “I’m captain and leader of this team and I think these young boys need me.”
Stepping into the role of five-eighth this season, with Adam Doueihi taking on the No. 7 position, Luai emphasized that his responsibilities will not significantly change, despite the shift in numbers. He reflected on the pressures of being a marquee recruit and the expectations that came with it, asserting that personal growth remains a central focus of his journey with the Tigers.
Luai also highlighted the potential of winger Luke Laulilii, predicting he could have a breakout season as the Tigers prepare for their campaign opener against North Queensland in round two at Leichhardt Oval.
This commitment from Luai signals a positive outlook for the Wests Tigers as they aim to rebuild and strive toward returning to the finals, invigorating both the players and the fanbase with renewed hope for the future.
