The Japanese government is providing approximately FJ$2.6 million in funding under the Human Resource Development Scholarship, also known as the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS) initiative, to support the Fijian government’s vision of capacity building through scholarships for the public sector.

This initiative represents the first formal engagement between Japan and Fiji in this project, which aims to enhance human resource development via postgraduate studies in Japan. The Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, will formalize this assistance by signing an agreement with Mr. Parmesh Chand, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service. The Exchange of Notes Signing ceremony will take place at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi on October 7, 2024, at 9:00 AM.

Following the Exchange of Notes signing, Mr. Suekane Kentaro, the Deputy Resident Representative of the JICA Fiji Office, will also sign the Grant Agreement with Mr. Parmesh Chand.
