The Government of Japan has committed $12.5 million to the Ministry of Local Government to enhance waste management services across the nation. This funding is part of Japan’s Economic and Social Development Programme (ESDP) aimed at providing developing countries with necessary resources to improve public services and infrastructure.

The official agreement will be formalized today through an Exchange of Notes, with Isami Takada, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan to Fiji, signing alongside Maciu Nalumisa, the Minister for Housing and Local Government.

This grant will allow the Ministry to acquire vital waste management equipment, which includes dump trucks, compactor trucks, excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, backhoe loaders, wood chippers, ride-on mowers, and other essential tools necessary for effective waste management.

Japan’s ESDP is dedicated to supporting developing nations by providing the equipment and machinery required to enhance public services, strengthen vital infrastructure, and bolster national resilience. This cooperation not only aims to improve environmental management but also promotes the overall well-being of communities throughout the country.
