YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul achieved a significant victory today by defeating former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in an eight-round heavyweight bout held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The judges unanimously scored the fight in favor of Paul, with scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.

The match, recognized by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, featured 2-minute rounds and both boxers wore 14-ounce gloves, which is heavier than the typical 10-ounce gloves used in heavyweight competitions.

Originally scheduled for July 20, the fight faced a delay when Tyson, 58, required medical attention for an ulcer flare-up during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles in May. Tyson, who made history in 1986 as the youngest heavyweight champion at just 20 years old, had an impressive career, including unifying all three major belts. He defended his title six times before a shocking loss to James “Buster” Douglas in 1990.

On the other hand, 27-year-old Paul, ranked at 11-1 with seven knockouts, began his boxing journey in 2020. Following a loss to Tommy Fury in February 2023, Paul has rebounded with five consecutive victories, including today’s triumphant decision over Tyson.

This win represents a significant milestone in Paul’s boxing career and showcases his ability to compete against seasoned fighters, bridging the gap between traditional boxing and modern influencers. The match also highlights the continuing crossover appeal of boxing, drawing attention from a diverse audience.

In summary, Jake Paul’s victory over Mike Tyson not only underscores his growth in the boxing world but also offers hope for continued engagement from new fans, proving that boxing remains an evolving sport.
