On November 27, the residents of Veinuqa in the Wainilotulevu village of Namosi celebrated the disbursement of funds aimed at improving their community hall, thanks to the assistance from the Government of China. In discussions with Minister of Development Maciu Nalumisa, the Chinese government officials committed to providing over $33,000 in support.
The community hall, which has served the village for over 20 years, is showing signs of deterioration and has become increasingly difficult to maintain, particularly during adverse weather conditions. Peceli Marua, the village chief, expressed the pressing need for renovations, highlighting the importance of financial support to restore the hall to a usable condition.
During the meeting, Zhou Jian, a representative from the Chinese Embassy in Fiji, reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the local community’s development. He praised the picturesque location of Wainilotulevu and emphasized the collaborative relationship between China and Fiji, which has flourished over the past 49 years.
Minister Rabuka acknowledged the vital support provided by China, particularly in addressing poverty and enhancing community welfare through infrastructure improvements.
The residents expressed their gratitude for the assistance, highlighting that the renovation efforts would significantly enhance the village’s resilience against future challenges posed by climate change and extreme weather.
This collaboration reflects a growing trend of international partnerships working together to bolster local community infrastructure, paving the way for a more sustainable and connected future for Wainilotulevu and beyond. In essence, this project not only seeks to improve facilities but also fosters a spirit of cooperation that can yield long-term benefits for all involved.
