Jacob Elordi Debuts Striking Creature Look in Del Toro’s Frankenstein on Netflix

Netflix has recently unveiled a new look at Jacob Elordi as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein, which is now in theaters. The streaming giant shared a portrait of Elordi, known for his role in Euphoria, portraying the reanimated being created by Victor Frankenstein, played by Oscar Isaac. Along with this striking image, several other cast photos were released on social media.

Elordi’s interpretation of the iconic monster deviates significantly from traditional depictions, opting for a look that includes pale skin marred by scars, a lack of eyebrows, and tangled dark hair that reaches past his shoulders. This fresh portrayal aligns closely with Mary Shelley’s original description in her 1818 novel, which depicts the creature as having flowing black hair and an almost ethereal presence.

Del Toro, who is known for his meticulous attention to detail, previously characterized Elordi’s appearance as “staggeringly beautiful, in an otherworldly way,” emphasizing the artistic vision behind the character’s design. “Victor is as much an artist as he is a surgeon,” del Toro explained. He articulated his desire to present the character not as an accident victim, but rather as a creation with beauty and depth, featuring various shades of translucent skin that contribute to the idea of a “newborn soul.”

The director also commended Elordi’s emotionally impactful performance, noting his ability to convey the creature’s evolution with intelligence and authenticity. Elordi remarked that the character feels like “more me than me,” adding a personal depth to his portrayal. Oscar Isaac echoed this sentiment, describing Elordi’s character as fundamentally intertwined with Victor Frankenstein himself, emphasizing themes of reflection, parenthood, and the cyclical nature of creation.

Frankenstein is currently screened in select theaters and is set to premiere on Netflix on November 7. This highly anticipated film not only enhances the monster’s timeless legacy but also highlights the intricate relationship between creator and creation, promising to resonate with audiences drawn to the emotional complexities of the story. As fans gear up for its broader release, the film stands as a testament to the enduring power of classic literature and the unique storytelling brought to life by del Toro and his impressive cast.
