The iTaukei Land and Fisheries Commission (TLFC) is on the verge of submitting its final report to the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, according to Minister Ifereimi Vasu. During a recent parliamentary session, Mr. Vasu revealed that the review process, which commenced in September, has benefitted from the insights of a strategic advisory group that has been instrumental in guiding the review team throughout their work.

Mr. Vasu detailed that the team has conducted consultations across 14 provinces, engaging various focus groups for comprehensive discussions. To ensure a wider reach, the team also held virtual meetings to gather input from iTaukei members living abroad.

Furthermore, the minister mentioned that the review team has kept the Great Council of Chiefs informed about their progress and is currently compiling the findings into a report. A critical discussion with the strategic advisory group is scheduled for the 20th, after which the final report will be presented to the ministry.

This undertaking is a significant step toward enhancing the management of iTaukei land and fisheries, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to inclusivity and transparency. The ongoing consultations, including contributions from the diaspora, demonstrate a strong dedication to ensuring that the voices of all iTaukei people are heard and considered in the final outcomes.

In summary, the TLFC’s final report submission is a vital initiative aimed at reinforcing the management of land and fisheries for the iTaukei community, promising to foster sustainable practices and enrich local livelihoods. It is an encouraging sign that the voices and experiences of the iTaukei people are being taken into account, paving the way for future developments.
