The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has received an impressive 7,043 applications this year for its Education Assistance Payouts aimed at iTaukei minors. This marks a substantial increase from the 1,187 applications received in the previous year, when the assistance program was first launched.

Of the total applications this year, 4,246 are from primary school students, 2,795 from secondary school students, and 2 from tertiary students. However, it is important to note that 1,827 applications were rejected due to various non-compliance issues, which included minors not being registered in the Vola ni Kawa Bula, discrepancies in information provided, and issues with bank account validation.

At the end of the application period, TLTB successfully disbursed $2.2 million to assist minors with their back-to-school needs. The board continues to prioritize transparency and efficiency in delivering its services, thus ensuring that iTaukei landowners receive the necessary support.

This educational initiative aligns well with similar efforts by TLTB to enhance the welfare of the iTaukei community. For example, the organization recently launched the iTaukei Development Fund Facility, which aims to empower landowners by giving them access to crucial resources for development projects. The aim is to shift the narrative around financial assistance and promote sustainable growth within the community.

Such programs not only reflect TLTB’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities but also highlight a broader initiative to foster economic development and improve overall well-being among iTaukei people.

The substantial rise in applications for the educational assistance program is indeed a hopeful sign, showcasing the community’s eagerness for educational support and growth opportunities. By investing in the education of its youth, TLTB is helping to lay a strong foundation for a brighter future within the iTaukei community.
