The government has been called upon to support Fijians residing in the most remote islands. Opposition MP and former Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau, highlighted that many communities on these isolated islands rely heavily on government resources.

Koroilavesau pointed out specific islands such as Yanuca, which is situated between Rabi and Taveuni, and Ono-i-Lau, located in the southeast along with Vatoa, noting the lack of basic resources. He emphasized that agriculture suffers due to insufficient land for cultivation, and forestry is nearly non-existent as vegetation is scarce.

He expressed a desperate need for the government to allocate resources and assistance to the Minister for Fisheries to aid these isolated communities. According to Koroilavesau, the islanders have minimal resources, with the sea being their primary source of income.
